چکیده

Recent developments in the field of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radio and networks led to the definition of a new Impulse Radio (IR) UWB-based IEEE standard for low data rate communications, named IEEE 802.15.4a. A typical feature of UWB radio is a large bandwidth together with limited available emission power, as set by regulatory bodies. UWB communications may, therefore, be severely affected by external interference. IR-UWB and Diffuse Wireless Optical (DWO) signals share a major feature of being impulsive in nature; we suggest that the combination of these two technologies may bring benefits, and overcome limitations. To this aim, we propose a strategy for combining these two physical layers by adopting a common Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol, based on selecting the most suitable physical layer as a function of external interference. Results obtained by simulation for different patterns of external interference indicate that system performance may be strongly improved by the proposed IR-DWO combination strategy.

Ultra-Wideband Low-Noise Amplifier and Six-Port Transceiver for High Speed Data Transmission

Today’s data rates in wired networks can reach 100 Gbit/s using optical fiber while data rates in wireless networks are much lower tens of Mbit/s for 3G mobile communication and 480 Mbit/s for ultra-wideband (UWB) short range wireless communications. This difference in data rates can mainly be explained by the limited allowed frequency spectrum, the nature of the radio signal and the high requi...

A Novel Small E–Ring Shaped Monopole Antenna with Dual Band-Notch Function for UWB Wireless Communications

This paper presents an E-ring shaped printed monopole antenna for UWB applications with dual notched bands performance. In order to generate single frequency band notch function, we applied a U-ring shaped monopole antenna, and by inserting a rectangular ring in the centre of it an E-ring shaped radiating patch created and a dual band-notch function can be achieved. The measured bandwidth of th...
